Lance Corporal Daniel Synott was born, lived and enlisted at Fermoy, County Cork. He was killed in action France and Flanders 23 March 1918 whilst serving with the 2nd Battalion, Leinster Regiment. He is confirmed in the regimental history as winning his M.M. wilst one of the bombers in the attack on Guillemont on 3 September 1916, in which action he was wounded. Lieutenant J. V. Holland commanded this bombing party and was awarded the Victoria Cross for his outstanding leadership. See footnote to Lot 1016 (Clarkin) for further details of this action.
