John Aincham was born in Accrington, Lancashire. A Labourer by occupation and a member of the 3rd Battalion Shropshire Light Infantry (Militia), he attested for regular service at Shrewsbury on 5 June 1896, aged 20 years, 10 months. With the 2nd Battalion he served in South Africa, November 1899-January 1903 and in India, January 1903-November 1908. He attained the rank of Serjeant in September 1902. Discharged having completed his period of service on 7 November 1908. With copied service papers and roll extracts.
