Lieutenant Warburton Edward Beamish served with the 4th Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment during the Boer War. Afterwards he transferred to the 5th Battalion Royal Munster Fusiliers. Later attached to the 2nd Battalion Nigeria Rifles, he served in the operations in the Kwala-Ishan District of Southern Nigeria, 1905-06. Promoted to Captain in 1906; during 1909-14 he served as Superintendent of Prisons, Northern Provinces, Nigeria.

During the Great War he was employed with the Egyptian Government. With copied roll extracts, m.i.c. and other research.
