This election medal, one of a number of similar pieces, has no direct links to Wilberforce’s anti-slavery campaign, but relates to the British general election, where Wilberforce topped the poll and he and Charles Fitzwilliam, Lord Milton were elected. Their opponent had been the Hon. Henry Lascelles, son of the Earl of Harewood, whose vast wealth was based on his Caribbean plantations. Similar medals are known for both Milton (DF 258.4) and Lascelles (BHM 624)
