Joseph Smith enlisted into the Military Train on 30 January 1862. He was promoted to Corporal in October 1863 and served in the field in New Zealand from 10 March to 13 May 1864. He transferred to the Army Service Corps on 15 February 1870 and retired as a Barrack Sergeant Major in October 1887. Sold with copied service papers.
