A Second World War ‘North Africa’ A.R.R.C. pair awarded to Squadron Officer Annie Katherine MacFie, Princess Mary’s Royal Air Force Nursing Service

Royal Red Cross, 2nd Class (A.R.R.C.), G.VI.R. 1st issue, silver and enamel, reverse dated ‘1941’, unnamed; General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Palestine 1945-48 (Act. Sen. Sister, P.M.R.A.F.N.S.) nearly extremely fine (2) £300-400

A.R.R.C. London Gazette 8 June 1944.

Acting Senior Sister MacFie, P.M.R.A.F.N.S. was awarded the A.R.R.C. for her service at No. 3 R.A.F. Hospital, Tripoli. The recommendation states: ‘This Senior Sister has been a very capable member of the Nursing Service who has served at hospitals at home and abroad. During the opening of No 3 RAF Hospital, she was of great assistance to the Matron and showed ingenuity in making arrangements for the comfort of the Sisters.’

Miss Annie Katherine MacFie appointed a Sister in the P.M.R.A.F.N.S. in September 1934. Awarded the A.R.R.C. in 1944. Appointed a Squadron Officer in the unit in February 1949. Retired on 29 September 1951. With some copied research.

Note: based on the gazette date and recommendation, her A.R.R.C. should be dated ‘1944’.
