Charles Mosley was born in Smethwick on 25 October 1892 and educated at Audley Road High School and Art School, Birmingham. A Moulder by occupation he enlisted as a Private into the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry on 1 September 1914 and served in France/Flanders from 30 September 1916 to 8 April 1917. He was discharged to a commission as a Sergeant on 25 September 1917. Commissioned as a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant, he was posted to the 19th Battalion Durham Light Infantry on 31 January 1918. In France again from 1 December 1917, he was gassed near Bonnay on 4 April 1918 during the German offensive, and was invalided to hospitals in England. Promoted to Temporary Lieutenant in March 1919, he relinquished his commission in November 1920. Sold with copied research and medal card boxes of issue.

Thomas Dorman Byers was born in Gateshead on 6 February 1882. Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 5th Volunteer Battalion Durham Light Infantry, 26 March 1902, he attained the rank of Captain in 1910 and resigned his commission on 20 May 1914. With the onset of war he rejoined as a Temporary Lieutenant in the 7th Battalion D.L.I. on 2 February 1915 and was appointed Temporary Captain 30 May 1915 to 28 August 1916. He relinquished his commission on account of ill-health on 27 July 1917. Sold with copied service details.
