Edwin Westall Earwicker was born in Portsea in 1875. He enlisted into the Yorkshire Regiment at Portsmouth on 21 January 1893 and was drafted into the 2nd Battalion in Burma in February 1895. He served with them in Burma, India and Africa and returned home with the battalion in 1908. He was awarded the L.S.& G.C. Medal, with gratuity, in 1912. In the Great War he entered the Balkans theatre of war on 14 July 1915, arrived at Gallipoli on 6 August and was killed in action at Sulva Bay on 9 August, aged 39 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. Entitled additionally to the 1914-15 Star and Victory Medal. His War Medal was returned as incorrectly stamped and re-issued in November 1921. He was the husband of Elsie G. Earwicker of 40 Weeks Road, Ryde, Isle of Wight.Sold with copied research.
