John Strachan Kelly was born in Aberdeen and, living in Brixton, enlisted at Clapham. Serving with “A” Squadron, Surrey Yeomanry, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 22 December 1914. He was killed in action, Salonika, on 22 October 1917, aged 31 years. The action in which he died is mentioned in the regimental history as ‘a successful raid by “A” Squadron and two platoons of Cyclists on Jenimah on October 22nd, ...’ Kelly was buried in the Struma Military Cemetery, Greece. He was the son of Timothy and Agnes Kelly, and husband of Laura M. Kelly of 6 Benedict Road, Brixton, London.
