John Hawke was only entitled to a single British War Medal 1914-20 for his services in the Great War (his MIC entry confirms), while the relevant regimental medal roll states that the award was returned, ‘undisposed of’. Meanwhile, his India General Service Medal 1908-35 for services in the Third Afghan War was sent to him in June 1925 (his MIC entry refers).
