Ernest Ashmore was a member of the Special Service Squadron of the 21st Lancers, raised at Tidworth in June 1916, and, in common with other members of the Squadron, transferred to the 10th Battalion, Royal West Kent Regiment, in August 1917.

Edward Large first entered the French theatre of war as a Private in the 9th Lancers on 15 September 1914, subsequently joined the 21st Lancers as a member of the Special Service Squadron raised at Tidworth in June 1916, and was discharged medically unfit in November 1917.
