George William Jeffery was born in Hoxton, Middlesex in October 1892 and enlisted in the Royal Naval Air Service in January 1916. Appointed a Leading Mechanic, he was employed as a fitter at the R.N.A.S. Station, Dover until being re-mustered in the newly established Royal Air Force as a Corporal (Mechanic) in April 1918, with whom he served out in France at No. 4 Aircraft Supply Depot from July of the same year until March 1919.
