William Sidney Hopkins was born in Slade Green, Kent on 22 June 1890. A Farm Labourer by occupation, he entered into the Royal Navy in May 1909, serving on several ships before transferring to the R.F.R. in May 1914. Recalled for the duration of the Great War, he served with the Hood Battalion R.N.D., 1914-15. He was demobilized on 11 March 1919. Stoker Hopkins was sent his 1914 Star in April 1920 and his clasp in July 1920. Awarded a privately produced medal for assisting in the saving of life in May 1914 - the details of the incident are unknown. Sold with copied service paper and other research.
