M.M. London Gazette 8 March 1945. The original recommendation for an immediate award states:

‘On 5 October 1944, in the final stages of the advance to the Strigara feature, Lance-Naik Bhuri Singh found a heavy concentration of enemy weapons barring his way in the approach to the Platoon objective, including two bazookas not previously encountered by this unit. Lance-Naik Bhuri Singh, realising that only heroic action would end the stalemate, called for volunteers from his section and with four men rushed the enemy position. Of his small party two were immediately wounded but undaunted he carried on and destroyed the enemy Breda crew. Surpirsed by these tactics, the enemy faltered and the remainder of the Platoon assaulted and carried this strongly held entrenchment and captured a bazooka. Complete fearlessness characterised this astonishing feat and has earned the admiration of all ranks of the unit.’
