William H. Beeks, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Beeks of 68 Commercial Street, Tredegar, first entered the French theatre of war as a Private in the 3rd Battalion, Monmouthshire Regiment in mid-February 1915, thereby qualifying for the 1914-15 Star. Subsequently advanced to Corporal, he died of wounds on the Somme on 17 July 1916. Aged 22 years, he was buried in the Etaples Military Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.

David J. Beeks, his brother, appears to have ended the War as a member of the South Wales Borderers. His
MIC further reveals that he was entitled to the T.E.M., in addition to his missing British War Medal 1914-20.
