James Duncan, who was born at Fordyce in Banffshire in about 1898, enlisted in the Gordons at Portsoy. Killed in action on the Somme on 4 August 1916, while serving with the 6th Gordons, he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
