The 61st Pioneers had the pre-1903 title of 1st Madras Infantry, became the 61st Pioneers in 1903, Prince of Wales's Own in 1906, and King George's Own in 1910. In 1922 it was re-titled 1st/1st Madras Pioneers (King George's Own).
