Richard James was born in Knighton, Radnor on 6 January 1877. Entering the Royal Navy in January 1899, he attained the rank of Chief Engine Room Artificer in May 1915. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1914. He served throughout the war on Tyne.

Robert Barton Whalley was born in Preston, Lancashire on 9 June 1878. Entering the Royal Navy in July 1899, he attained the rank of C.E.R.A. 1st Class in June 1917. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1914 on the light cruiser
Philomel. Served on Sparrowhawk, September 1914-December 1915; Victory II, January 1916-June 1917; Furious, June-November 1917; Victory II, November 1917-November 1918.

George Francis Tucker was born in New Brompton, Kent on 22 May 1879. Entering the Royal Navy in April 1900, he attained the rank of C.E.R.A. 1st Class in November 1917. Served on the protected cruiser
Sapphire, July 1914-October 1917; awarded the L.S. & G.C. in 1915. All with copied service papers.
