James Hurrel Gammon was born in Wilkie, Saskatchewan, on 10 February 1891. A Locomotive Fireman by occupation, he enlisted into the Canadian Engineers at Winnipeg in February 1916 and joined the 4th Army Troop Company in France in January 1917. For his wartime services he was awarded the M.S.M. (London Gazette 3 June 1919 refers); sold with two original Canadian Pay Books and his Discharge Certificate, together with copied service papers.
