Holt, David Arnot, Halfpence (3), Fame blowing trumpet, revs. sold at the spa house, etc (2), edge grained, 9.60g/6h (DH 3), edge plain, 9.68g/12h (DH 3a), building, b below, 8.82g/6h (DH 4); mule Halfpenny by Kempson, similar, rev. bust of George III right, edge plain, 9.93g/12h (DH 6) [4]. DH 3 and 3a extremely fine, former with virtually full original colour, latter patinated, others good very fine or better (£60-80)

David Arnot, proprietor of the Spa House, Holt, near Bradford-on-Avon, opened a school for boys in September 1794. The tokens state that the mineral spa for which the town was once well known was discovered in 1688; Holt’s medicinal waters were also sold by his London agent, John Griffiths, 27 St Alban’s street [now Waterloo place]
