Birmingham, Riots, [or the Second Anniversary of the French Revolution], 1791, medals (3), unsigned [perhaps by J.G. Hancock], monster of Sedition carrying flag with cap of Liberty on the staff, revs. snake basking in long grass, 34mm (2), in copper, 16.98g/12h, in white metal, 14.00g/12h (both DH 34; BHM 360), in copper, struck out of collar, 32mm, 14.83g/12h (DH 34a) [3]. First about very fine, others good very fine (£100-150)

Second only illustrated. The series of riots in Birmingham, which began on the evening of 14 July 1791 (see lot 1541) and lasted three days, resulted in the destruction of a vast amount of valuable property and was only halted by the actions of the militia brought in from Nottingham. In a subsequent series of trials at Warwick and Worcester, four of the ringleaders were hanged
