The Warwickshire Yeomanry Cavalry was founded by the Earl of Warwick on 25 June 1794 and comprised four troops; the first commanding officer was Heneage Finch, 4th Earl of Aylesford (1751-1812). The legend on the token would infer that Welch was associated with the second troop, but all four troops had combined to form a regiment in 1797
