Birmingham, Thomas Welch, Penny, 1799, mounted yeoman riding left, warwickshire yeomanry, etc, rev. promissory penny token issued by thomas welch second troop and date, edge armed to preserve our lives property and constitution against foreign and domestic enemies, 27.08g/6h (DH 27a). Extremely fine and extremely rare (£300-400)

24 struck. The Warwickshire Yeomanry Cavalry was founded by the Earl of Warwick on 25 June 1794 and comprised four troops; the first commanding officer was Heneage Finch, 4th Earl of Aylesford (1751-1812). The legend on the token would infer that Welch was associated with the second troop, but all four troops had combined to form a regiment in 1797
