DH 345 only illustrated. The pieces made by Matthew Boulton in this group are DH 387, 387a and 388; in the opinion of the cataloguer 385 does not have the characteristics of a Soho production (Doty,
CTCJ May 1997, p.10). The heavy weight of 387a, with Boulton’s ‘privy mark’ on the edge, lends support to Doty’s view that this is part of Boulton’s pioneering effort for Wilkinson coined on 16 June 1790; the lighter 1790-dated Boulton pieces had been produced by the end of January 1791
