Illustrated on the front cover. Until c. 1855 notes could be issued solely at Dublin, or alternatively at Dublin with one or more other branches. This note is part of the new series issued from 1838, depicting statues of Hibernia at left and right and a row of 21 classical heads of Medusa across the top. The main elements of this design continued to be used by the bank until the late 20th century
