Municipal, LANCASHIRE, Borough of Salford, a quatrefoil-shaped silver award medal by Ollivant & Botsford, arms and supporters, rev. pelleted border, named (John Staniar, Councillor, Novr. 1879), 56mm; Corporation of the City of Manchester, a silver award medal by Elkington, named (Awarded to J.E.H. Andrew for Bisschop Gas Engine, 1880), 56mm [2]. Very fine, first toned and with loop for suspension £70-90

Second only illustrated. John Staniar, principal of the family business, the Manchester Wire Works, Sherborne street, now located at Whitefield, Bury. J.E.H. Andrew & Co, Reddish, Stockport, were the principal manufacturers in England of the Bisschop gas engine, the first practical internal combustion engine, and produced some 2,000 models between 1878 and 1894
