Owen Horan was born in Shankley, Co. Monaghan and attested for the 37th Regiment at Belfast on 30 September 1850, aged 17 years, 10 months. He served throuhout his military career with the 37th Regiment. He claimed his discharge in 1872 having completed his second period of limited engagement. During this time he had served five and half years in Ceylon and nearly nine years in India. With copied discharge papers.
