William Richard Lawson was born in Lowdham, Nottinghamshire. A Farm Labourer by occupation, he enlisted into the Sherwood Foresters on 7 October 1908, aged 18 years, 5 months. He entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 4 November 1914. Hospitalised in France on 3 February 1915, he was invalided to England the next day. He returned to France again, 3 August 1915-9 April 1919. Discharged on the termination of his service on 6 October 1920. With copied service papers and m.i.c.
