Ernest Hickman was born in Radford, Nottinghamshire and enlisted in Nottingham in August 1908. Serving with the 2nd Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 11 November 1914. Hickman died of wounds as a prisoner-of-war on 27 November 1914. He was buried in the Erquinghem Churchyard Extension, Nord, France
