John Hoey, who enlisted in the 9th Lancers in June 1837, was present at the battle of Punniar in the Gwalior Campaign, Sobraon in the First Sikh War, and at the crossing of the Chenab and the battles of Chilianwala and Goojerat in the Punjab 1848-49. He was discharged back in the U.K. in September 1852.
