Accompanying notes state that McKeever originally proceeded to Malaya with the 5th Battalion, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment in January 1942, and that he was able to evade the Japanese, gaining passage to Sumatra and thence to Colombo. He afterwards transferred to the Royal Artillery.
