Of a little over 200 “Gemaizah 1888” clasps awarded to R.N. personnel, 128 were issued to the crew of H.M.S. Racer.

Philip Andrews was born at East Stonehouse, Devon in June 1858 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in January 1874. He subsequently witnessed active service at Gemaizah in 1888, having been landed for the Naval Brigade from H.M.S. Racer, and was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in August 1886. Andrews was pensioned ashore in June 1896.
