, undated reverse, 1 clasp, Suakin 1884 (Coxn. 1st Cl., H.M.S. Euryalus); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspension (Comd. Boatn., H.M. Coast Guard), impressed naming; Khedive’s Star 1884, the clasp a tailor’s copy, contact marks and edge nicks, otherwise generally very fine (3) £160-180

William Samuel Hill was born at Lambeth, Surrey in May 1857 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in April 1873. A Petty Officer 1st Class (and Coxswain) by the time of his service off Egypt, he was not entitled to the clasp for “Suakin 1884”. Hill was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in January 1901, having transferred to the Coast Guard back in February 1887, and was pensioned ashore as a Chief Officer in May 1912.
