Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (2) (116 Sergt. J. Calvert, 1-17th Foot; 1319 Sergt. W. Vinters, 2-17th Foot), this last with plain riband brooch-bar for wearing, both impressed naming, the first polished and with signs of corrosion to upper right hand obverse field, good fine, the second with minor edge bruising, very fine (2) £100-120

William Vinters was born in Boston, Lincolnshire and enlisted in the 17th Regiment direct from the North Lincoln Militia in September 1860, aged 17 years. In his subsequent career of 22 years with the Colours, he served overseas in North America and Jamaica, but saw no action, and was advanced to Colour-Sergeant in March 1875. On being discharged from the 17th Regiment in July 1883, Vinters transferred to the 3rd Battalion, Norfolk Regiment.
