Richard Forster was born at Kinnity, Ireland, in 1838. He volunteered for service with the Imperial Commissariat Transport Corps, being employed and paid by the Imperial Government. He served as a Private with the 2nd Waikato Regiment and was present at Orakau. His medal was issued in 1882.
