Julian Philip Swindell Hayes was born in Westminster on 27 January 1859. Qualifying as a L.R.C.P.I. and M.R.C.S., he entered the R.A.M.C. as a Surgeon-Captain on 30 January 1886. Serving in the Sudan, he was promoted to Major on 30 January 1899. After service in the Boer War he was placed on Retired Pay in Janaury 1906. Was employed when on the Retired List at Gravesend, 1906-09.
