Edward Campbell was born in March 1815. He was appointed Surgeon of H.M.S. Cleopatra and proceeded to Bombay in January 1840. He served in the First Afghan War and was present at the storming of Istaliff (Cabul Medal 1842). Present at the battle of Maharajpoor in December 1843 (Star), he also served in the First Sikh War, being present at the battles of Moodkee, Ferozeshuhur, Aliwal and Sobraon (Medal and clasps). He then served in the Crimea War as Deputy Inspector of Hospitals with the Turkish Contingent under General Vivian (Medals). He retired to England in July 1864 and died in London on 16 January 1890.
