Military General Service 1793-1814, 4 clasps, Martinique, Busaco, Fuentes D’Onor, Vittoria (J. Griffiths, Sgn. 23rd Foot & 15th Husrs. & Staff Sgn. 14th Portse.) nearly extremely fine £1400-1600

John Griffith[s] was born on 7 August 1785, and appointed a Hospital Mate on 6 April 1806. He was appointed as Assistant Surgeon to the 23rd Foot on 9 May 1807, and accompanied the regiment in the expedition to Copenhagen in September of the same year, and subsequently to Nova Scotia and the West Indies, where he was present at the capture of Martinique in 1809. In August of the same year he was appointed as Surgeon on the Staff in Portugal with the troops under the command of Lieutenant-General Sir W. Carr Beresford, where he remained until September 1812 when he was transferred as Surgeon to the 15th Hussars. He returned to the Staff in September 1813, remaining in the Peninsula until September 1814 when he retired on half pay. He died on 31 May 1873.
