Roman Imperial Coinage, Theodosius I (379-395), Heavy Miliarensis, Trier, 378-83, d n theodo-sivs p f avg, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right, rev. votis v mvltis x in four lines within wreath, tr ps in exergue, 5.27g/6h (Ghey 10, this coin; Ball O2/R1; Hoxne –; RIC IX –; RSC –). Hairline striking crack at 2 o’clock and double-struck on reverse, otherwise extremely fine, attractive dark tone; unrecorded in the standard references and excessively rare, this only the fourth known specimen £1,200–£1,500
