An 1821 pattern light cavalry officer’s sword owned by Major Hon. Hugh George Gough, 14th. Hussars, who commanded the 1st. Mounted Infantry at Abu Klea, the slightly curved 90cm blade by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London, No.19516 for 1874, etched with crowned VR cypher, panels of foliate scrolls, etc., regimental device and XIV King’s Hussars, battle honours to Central India and within a cartouche the owners initials HGG, regulation steel guard, chequered pommel, fishskin covered grip bound with silver wire, minor service wear overall and lacking scabbard £200-250

The Wilkinson proof books record sword number 19516 as a light cavalry sword sold to H. G. Gough, 22 September 1874.
