1 officer and 22 other ranks of the Royal Highlanders served in the Mounted Infantry Camel Regiment on the Nile, all of whom fought at Abu Klea.

James Ralston was born at Stony Kirk, near Stranraer, Wigton, and enlisted for the Royal Highlanders at Glasgow on 16 March 1882, a fitter by trade, aged 19 years 4 months. He served in Egypt from November 1883 to April 1886, and is the only man of the regiment at Abu Klea with no previous medal or clasps for service in Egypt. His documents show clasp for Kirbekan but he is fully confirmed on the roll of the Mounted Infantry detachment of the Camel Corps at Abu Klea. Sold with copy discharge papers and medal roll.
