A Great War M.C. group of four to Lieutenant R. L. Statham, Dorsetshire Regiment, late Royal Fusiliers

Military Cross, G.V.R., unnamed, in case of issue; 1914-15 Star (PS-4232 Pte., R. Fus.); British War Medal 1914-20 (Lieut.); Portugal, Republic, Military Order of Aviz, Knight’s breast badge, silver and enamel, in F. da Costa, Lisbon case of issue, enamel damage; with an erased Victory Medal 1914-19 with M.I.D. oakleaf; together with a mounted set of five miniature dress medals, these in Spink, London leather case, very fine and better except where stated (10) £800-900

M.C. London Gazette 7 March 1918. ‘T/2nd Lt. Richard Leicester Statham, attd. Dorset R.’ ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This officer, with his platoon, captured an enemy strong point which yielded sixty prisoners. Later, when his company commander became a casuualty, he took charge of the company, and commanded it with great courage and skill. He set a splendid example of cheerfulness and devotion to duty’.
