1914 Star (3123 Pte., 9/Lond. R.); British War and Victory Medals (3123 Cpl., 9-Lond. R.); together with his fathers’ British War Medal 1914-20 (A.A. 2555 F. J. Allen, A.B., R.N.V.R.); three original photographs including recipient in uniform; original photograph of father in naval uniform; three related family photographs; transmission slips for 1914 Star and B.W.M. and Victory Medals; and a contemporary three page typescript copy of a letter written to recipients father by Major R. H. Lindsey-Renton on 29 December 1918 speculating as to the final resting places of members of the 9th Londons killed at Gommecourt on 1 July 1916, extremely fine (4) £400-500

Sydney John Allen lived at Thornton Heath and enlisted at London. He was killed in action in France and Flanders on 1 July 1916 whilst serving with the 9th Battalion, London Regiment (Queen Victoria’s Rifles) and his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
