Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal (3089 Pte. L. Slaney, North’d. Fus.) nearly extremely fine £120-160

Louis Slaney was born in Radford, Nottingham. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the Northumberland Fusiliers at Nottingham on 8 February 1892. He served overseas in India, December 1892-March 1895; Singapore, March 1895-December 1896; Gibraltar, January 1897-January 1898; Egypt, January-October 1898 - serving in the Sudan campaign for which he was awarded the Queen’s and Khedive’s Sudan Medal; the occupation of Crete, October 1898-April 1899, and thence in South Africa, November 1899-September 1902. Private Slaney was taken prisoner at the battle of Stormberg, 10 December 1899. He was discharged after completing his period of engagement on 7 February 1904. Sold with copied service papers.
