The 5th Battalion, 11th Sikh Regiment, formed part of 22nd Indian Infantry Brigade in the Malaya operations of 1941-42. Having acquitted themselves with great gallantry - killing and wounding several hundred Japanese in one bayonet charge - they were eventually cut-off, only about 100 men of the Battalion reaching Singapore.
