Volunteer Force Long Service Medal Army Order 189/1906, dated 1 August 1906.
A. P. Arnold served in the 5th Volunteer Battalion Durham Light Infantry. Appointed Surgeon-Captain in November 1891 and promoted to Surgeon-Major in August 1902. In April 1908 the 5th Volunteer Battalion became the 9th Battalion in the Territorial Force. Major Arnold was a representative member of the Durham Territorial Association from April 1908 - representing Gateshead County Borough. 50 Edward VII Volunteer Force Long Service Medals awarded to the 5th Battalion D.L.I. - 6 to officers, only one to a Surgeon-Major.
