George Henry Usmar was born on 19 April 1878. Employed as a Civil Surgeon in South Africa at the time of the Boer War. He served as a Lieutenant in the R.A.M.C., 5 July 1901-10 September 1902. During the Great War he served as a Lieutenant-Colonel in the South African Medical Corps. For the recipient’s miniature medals, see lot 1166.
