A rare R.R.C. group of three to Nursing Sister J. King

Miss W. A. J. King was born on 19 December 1845. Serving in the National Aid Society in 1881, she was despatched to Egypt as a Nursing Sister. There she was awarded the R.R.C. in respect of her services. In May 1884 she transferred to the Military Nursing Establishment, returning to England in June 1885 when she was posted to the Guards’ Hospital. Further service followed at Netley and Woolwich before being transferred to Dublin as Acting Superintendent in July 1889. Miss King resigned from that position in November 1890; she reportedly died on 11 March 1927. Sold with a copied photograph of the recipient and copied research.

Only 35 Egypt annd Sudan Medals were awarded to nurses, of these only 13 were entitled to the clasp ‘Suakin 1885’.
