M.M. London Gazette 31 August 1944.

‘From evening 7 June 1944 to noon 12 June 1944, Regimental Sergeant-Major Lockhart established and maintained the battalion ammunition reserve and replenishment in our positions in Les Buissons. Our positions were under mortar, shell and small arms fire almost continuously. Regimental Sergeant-Major Lockhart took his lorry back for ammunition without regard for the risk of it being hit, though the road was under enemy observation nine hundred yards away. On one occasion he was unloading his lorry in our area when motaring resumed, but he carried on in order to get the vehicle unloaded. On another occasion his ammunition dump received a direct hit and by his efforts the resulting fire was kept away from the undamaged portion’.

Frederick Allan Lockhart was born in Halderman, Ontario on 30 November 1908. Having had previous military service, he enlisted into the Stormont Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders on 24 June 1940. He was appointed C.S.M. in November 1940 and R.S.M. in December 1942. Serving overseas on mainland Europe he was awarded the Military Medal. As a R.S.M. W.O. Class 1 he was demobilized on 22 September 1945. His medal entitlement as listed on his Discharge Certificate, reads, ‘Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Clasp; Military Medal; 1st & 2nd Clasp Canadian Efficiency Medal; 1939-45 Star; France & Germany Star; Defence Medal’.
