James Byrne was born in Blackrock, Co. Dublin and living at Aughrim, Co. Wicklow, enlisted at Bray. Serving as a Lance-Corporal in the 2nd Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 23 October 1916, aged 29 years. The son of James and Elizabeth Byrne of Sweetmount, Churchtown, Dundrum, Co. Dublin; he was buried in the Ovillers Military Cemetery, Somme, France.
