William Moger was born in Wansdyke, Claverton Down, near Bath on 21 October 1888 and was educated at Bath College (Junior School) and King Edward’s Grammar School, Bath, where he served in the school cadet corps. A Solicitor by profession, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th Bbattalion Somerset Light Infantry in October 1913. With the onset of war he was mobilised with the rank of Lieutenant. Posted to India in October 1914, he entered the Mesopotamia theatre of war in February 1916, remaining there until June when he was promoted to Captain. He was again in Mesopotamia during August-December 1916. Employed thereafter in India, he served in the Third Afghan War during July-September 1919, on attachment to the 1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment. He held the rank of Acting Major briefly in September 1916 and again during the period December 1918-March 1919. Disembodied in November 1919, he was appointed to the reconstructed 4th Battalion S.L.I. as a Captain. Moger resigned his commission whilst retaining the rank of Captain in September 1922. Sold with a quantity of copied service papers.
